The Problem with Most Multiplayer Games

Years ago I defended multiplayer gaming (this category includes "singleplayer" games played beside friends) by saying that it can provide a fun bonding experience; a potentially inexpensive, social escape. And that is still true!

But there is a problem, although it's less of a problem with many "singleplayer" games.

The problem is that most multiplayer games are providing the same experience over and over again, under the guise of "emergent gameplay."

"No playthrough is the same!"
"Each match of game X is a new adventure!"

Uuuh, no. I mean, yeah a match isn't exactly the same as the last match (except when it is).

Now, I know exactly what counter-argument you are thinking....Actually I don't; but pretend you're thinking, "But Paul AKA King Horse Fondler! Paying 60 bucks for a multiplayer game is a lot of gameplay for the buck! You're just encouraging us to pay more money to evil corporations in order to get new experiences!"

WRONG

I am saying that, 1) It is probably in our best interest to buy less games (which would force us to make smarter purchases of anti-monotony), and 2) we should have another gaming-like hobby. I suggest couples dancing. Maybe Salsa or the Lindy Hop or Tango or something; although Tango music is kinda boring; and the lyrics to almost all Salsa songs are intellectually insulting.

I mean- manifold, social, escapist activities should, in the long run, not just maximize our enjoyment of life, but also save us money, as we'll have incentive to buy new games after their prices have gone down. Although if our non-gaming escapist activity is expensive, than, well, at least we're happier (UNTIL WE DIE!!! :)

YAAAAAAAAAY!
